CMMS PTSA Executive Board Update…
Debbie Medoro and myself (Lisa Wheeler) would like to take a minute to introduce our 2 new Board members to the Challenger family. Jennifer Linsinbigler is our new Treasurer and Kathy O’Donoghue is our new Correspondence/Recording Secretary. We thank you both for joining our team and are looking forward to a great year!! We also wanted to give a “shout out” to our interim Treasure, Michele Principe. Her help this summer is much appreciated.

**UPDATE** New Friday / Spirit T-Shirts

The new T-shirt logo & color has been a HUGE hit with all the kids! It was wonderful walking around campus last Friday seeing the kids in their new shirts, as well as other CMMS apparel. Additional shirts have been ordered for the Youth XL, Ladies’ Small and Men’s Small sizes. If you have pre-ordered and paid for your shirt, we should have them within 10 days. All orders will be processed immediately and given to the students to bring home.

Mr. Silverman has asked PTSA to sell shirts during lunch this week. We will happily be selling t-shirts in both Ladies & Men sizes M, L, XL & XXL. Orders will need to be taken for the Youth XL and small sizes.

All shirts are $13 with the exception of the XXL sizes — those are $15. Payment in the form of cash or check, please.

BOX TOPS 4 EDUCATION … It’s time again to start cutting and saving those Box Tops!

PTSA’s Fall “BOX TOPS 4 EDUCATION CONTEST” is ready to launch!

INCENTIVE: The 6th PERIOD CLASS with the most eligible BOX TOPS turned in by Friday, October 24th will be rewarded with a “DUNKIN DONUTS PARTY”. Also, the 6th Period TEACHER will receive a $20 gift certificate to Cinemark Movies!!

Rules to remember:

* BOX TOPS must be in a Ziploc bag with your 6th period Teacher’s name & PTSA written on the bag. Please turn in the BOX TOPS on a daily basis to your 6th period teacher.

* BOX TOPS expiration date must be visible.
* BOX TOPS that are expired will be disqualified.
* Bonus BOX TOPS Certificates accepted as face value.

“ENJOY THE CITY” COUPON BOOK FUNDRAISER

CMMS PTSA’s biggest & most profitable fundraiser of the year begins on Tuesday, Sept. 2nd and runs through Sept. 16th. This terrific coupon book will be going home to all students along with an order form for additional books. The cost of the coupon book is $20 and includes hundreds of dollars in savings for local stores and restaurants. You have the option to purchase your book, order additional books or return your book. All orders will be filled within 2-3 days and returned to your student.

Student Incentives for this fundraiser – –
* Top 5 sellers each earn $50 (must sell 10+ books to qualify). * Anyone who sells 10+ books receives a $10 Cinemark Movie gift card

An open letter to the Christa McAuliffe Community:

I have received several emails and calls regarding our dress code and the incorrect assumption that our school does not support the military. To be clear, we have the utmost respect for those who serve in the military and our school has a track record of supporting active soldiers. The news outlets sensationalized a misunderstanding we had with a student about our dress code on the first day of school. Please know that we never banned the Navy brand or any other military brand from school. The conversation we had with the student had to do with our dress code and nothing to do with the content or message. Unfortunately, the news was not interested in all of the facts. Moving forward, I will work with parents and students to improve the school’s dress code and communicate it effectively so we do not have any further unfortunate misunderstandings.

As a school, we are proud of our support for active soldiers. For example, last school year we organized a collection of food and supplies for our troops in Afghanistan. We actually “adopted” a group of soldiers that were stationed there. Over the course of the year, we were able to do four shipments directly to the soldiers. We even had a live Skype session between our students and the soldiers for about an hour. Happily, those troops are returning to the U.S. next month and we are scheduling a live face-to-face meeting with them here at the school. You can read more about it here:

Wed. 8/13 – 7th & 8th Grade Schedule Pick-Up, 1 to 4 pm

Fri. 8/15 – 6th Grade Orientation, 1 to 4 pm

Mon. 8/18 – 1st Day of School!!

Thurs. 8/28 – Early Release Day, dismissal at 1:08 pm

On the 13th & 15th, please be sure to stop by our PTSA table in the cafeteria. In addition to having hand-outs and answering any questions you may have, we will be selling:
* PTSA memberships (free CMMS calendar included with purchase) for $10
* Friday T-shirts (NEW logo design) – $13 for sizes Youth L and Adult S, M and L. Sizes XL & XXL are $15. Payments accepted by cash or check.
